Training or fine-tuning a language model takes a lot of public web text, and collecting it at scale means spreading requests across many IP addresses. IPRoyal and DataImpulse both market their proxy networks for this job. This page sets out what each one offers, using only their own product pages.
If you want an AI agent to fetch pages for you instead, an MCP server is the better fit. See MCP servers for web scraping.
Why proxies matter for AI data collection
IPRoyal's AI training page frames the problem as bans, rate limits and geo-restrictions breaking up a dataset. A large crawl from a handful of IPs runs into all three. Rotating through a residential pool keeps each IP's request count low, and country targeting lets you collect text that is only served in certain regions.
Our guides on rotating proxies and residential vs datacenter proxies cover the mechanics.
What each provider says about AI
IPRoyal. Its AI page pitches a global proxy network with control over geo-location and session behavior, plus a Web Unblocker that "automatically handles IP blocks, CAPTCHAs, and other obstacles." The AI training page recommends residential and mobile proxies for traffic that looks like real users, and dedicated proxies for "stable, long-term connections for strict or high-value targets."
DataImpulse. Its AI proxies page defines AI proxies as "residential and mobile addresses that can handle high-scale and geo-diverse data collection." It also says, under when not to choose DataImpulse, that it isn't the right pick if you need a scraping API.
Side by side
Every figure below is a vendor-listed starting price or claim, taken from the pages linked.
| IPRoyal | DataImpulse | |
|---|---|---|
| Residential price | From $1.75/GB | $1/GB; $0.80/GB on the 1 TB plan |
| Pool size | 32M+ IPs on the top plan | 90M+ IPs |
| Countries | 195+ | 195 |
| Traffic expiry | Never expires | Never expires |
| Mobile | From $10.11/day | $2/GB |
| Datacenter | From $1.39/proxy | $0.50/GB |
| ISP (static) | From $1.80/proxy | — |
| Targeting | City and state | Country included; state, city, ZIP, ASN at 2× the price |
| Sessions | Flexible rotation | Rotating and sticky |
| Unblocking or scraping API | Web Unblocker, from $1.00 per 1,000 requests | None |
| Free trial | — | — |
| MCP server | — | — |
A dash means the provider's page doesn't mention it. DataImpulse's page lists a 7-day refund policy and a $5 intro plan instead of a trial. DataImpulse's mobile and datacenter prices come from the pricing tables on its AI page, which aren't labelled by product; the order matches its product tabs.
How to choose
- Raw residential bandwidth on a budget. DataImpulse lists the lower starting price per GB and the larger pool, by each provider's own figures. Country targeting is included, so a crawl split by country costs no extra.
- Sites that block plain proxies. IPRoyal's Web Unblocker handles blocks and CAPTCHAs for you, priced per 1,000 requests. DataImpulse says it has no scraping API, so the unblocking logic is yours to build.
- Long sessions or a fixed identity. IPRoyal sells ISP and datacenter proxies with unlimited sessions. DataImpulse's page offers sticky sessions on its rotating pool.
- Irregular collection runs. Both say purchased traffic doesn't expire, so you can buy once and crawl in bursts.
Neither provider's AI page mentions an MCP server. If your pipeline is an agent rather than a crawler, Bright Data, Oxylabs and ZenRows each document one.
Collect responsibly
A proxy changes where a request comes from, not what you're allowed to collect. IPRoyal's AI training data guide says collected data must follow privacy and copyright law. Respect each site's terms and rate limits, skip personal data you don't need, and get legal advice before building a dataset for a commercial model.

FAQ
Which proxy type is used for AI training data?
Both providers point to residential and mobile proxies for AI data collection. IPRoyal also suggests dedicated proxies for stable, long connections to strict targets. DataImpulse's AI page calls datacenter proxies easily detectable for data gathering; in practice, datacenter IPs still work on sites that don't block them and cost less.
How much do IPRoyal and DataImpulse charge for residential proxies?
IPRoyal lists residential proxies from $1.75/GB. DataImpulse lists $1/GB, dropping to $0.80/GB on its 1 TB plan. Both say purchased traffic doesn't expire. DataImpulse charges double for state, city, ZIP or ASN targeting; country targeting is included.
Do IPRoyal or DataImpulse offer an MCP server for AI agents?
Neither provider's AI page mentions one. For agents that fetch pages through MCP, see the Bright Data, Oxylabs and ZenRows servers in our MCP overview.
Is it legal to scrape web data for AI training?
It depends on the data, the site's terms and the law where you operate. IPRoyal's own guidance says collected data must follow privacy and copyright law, and proxies don't change that. Get legal advice for anything beyond public, non-personal data.
